Finalists for the 2014 Medical Design Excellence Awards

Published: 14 May 2014

We are excited to announce that the NIOX VERO® airway inflammation monitor and the Carevo shower trolley have both been chosen as finalists in this year’s Medical Design Excellence Awards (MDEA) competition. Evaluated by an impartial panel of medtech experts, the MDEA is exclusively granted to companies that contribute to a significant positive development in the field of medical technology design.

This is not the first time Veryday has been recognized by the MDEA program.  In 2005 we were awarded for the NIOX MINO®, the world’s first handheld device for monitoring inflammation in the airways. Seamlessly integrating the external design, ergonomics, and user interface, with the NIOX MINO® Veryday helped revolutionize the way doctors diagnose, monitor and optimize therapy for asthma patients. Based on the positive customer experience of the NIOX MINO, Veryday was most recently assigned to help Aerocrine and their partner, Panasonic Healthcare, design the next-generation NIOX VERO – another groundbreaking medical device for monitoring inflammation in the airways of asthma patients.

Earlier this year it was announced that the Carevo shower trolley won a Red Dot “Best of the Best” Design Award. The shower trolley’s unique design offers caregivers a safe and efficient work tool while simultaneously providing patients with comfort and dignity in their daily hygiene care situation. Together with ArjoHuntleigh, Veryday’s designers and human factors experts focused on incorporating emotional user needs during their development work.

The 2014 MDEA Juror Panel selected 54 exceptional finalists in 11 medical technology product categories. Winners will be announced at the 2014 MDEA Ceremony to be held Wednesday, June 11th at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York.

About the Medical Design Excellence Awards

The MDEA program recognizes the achievements of medical device manufacturers, their suppliers, and the many people behind the scenes – engineers, scientists, designers and clinicians – who are responsible for the groundbreaking innovations that are saving lives; improving patient healthcare; and transforming medtech worldwide ¬– one innovation at a time. Unlike other design competitions, the MDEA Jury is comprised of a mix of practicing doctors, nurses and technicians alongside industrial designers, engineers, manufacturers and human factors experts. MDEA finalist and winning entries must excel in areas of design and engineering excellence; manufacturing and technological innovation; clinical efficacy and cost-effectiveness, as well as overall benefits to patients, end-users and the healthcare industry.
