In the year 2000 some of the most influential leaders from around the world came together and agreed upon eight goals for global development to meet by 2015. Known as the Millennium Development Goals, they include big aims such as ensuring environmental stability, ending extreme poverty, and promoting gender equality. As we draw near the end of 2014, the clock is ticking and many of the goals remain unrealized. Driven by a wish to improve the quality of life for people, and confident that the innovative power of our team can contribute to reaching the MDGs, we initiated the Veryday Race for Change, a full day of internal workshops, during which every creative mind at Veryday solely focused on tackling the developmental problems still facing the globe. By the end of the day, a selection of rough prototypes and new ideas were presented that we hope will be implemented in the near future.

Throughout the day we were joined from Cape Town by Industrial Design Professor Dr. Mugendi K. M’Rithaa, who provided insights into the needs and behaviors of developing countries, especially Africa. Such needs included, but were not limited to, supling electricity to refugee camps, empowering women, and delivering vaccines in rural settings. At the end of the day, Prof. Dr. M’Rithaa provided critical feedback when the teams presented their concepts.

The extraordinary minds at Veryday spend their days creating innovative solutions that are firmly rooted in the needs of the people who will use them. We are incredibly excited to see what we can accomplish when we put our minds to some of our world’s most difficult challenges.
