On the evening of November 16th, the annual UX Awards conference and celebration was held in New York. After an inspiring day of talks by AirBNB, Morgan Stanley and Google, the awards ceremony highlighted the best examples of UX from around the world this year. We are delighted and honored that our project, the Departure Sequencing Tool for Swedavia, was the sole winner of the competition’s very highest award – the Grand Prize! The unanimous jury was impressed by how well the project uses UX to simplify complex challenges.

The Departure Sequencing Tool is a digital system used by air traffic controllers that, since its implementation, has greatly improved the efficiency of planning aircraft departures from Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport. The system reduces the workload for air traffic controllers, saves time for passengers and reduces CO2 emissions by decreasing the amount of fuel used by aircraft on the ground.

Our Director of Interaction Design, Lennart Andersson, leader of and interaction designer for the project, was present at the ceremony to receive this prestigious award. Big congratulations to the project team, Ecru Consulting AB, who did a fantastic job creating the back end of the system, and Swedavia.
